Give bees a chance
Bees are a cornerstone species for biodiversity and their role as pollinators is critical to our plants and food security. Spring is a time when European Honeybees sometimes swarm (where they follow a queen to a new location). Often, these swarms may cause concern for golfers, but a swarm is generally not dangerous, as the bees are focused on their queen. However, some golfers may overreact, which is understandable for those with allergies.
If a swarm does settle on your course in a bird box or tree hollow, you will need help from a professional beekeeper. As long as the area is easily accessible, the bees can safely and humanely be relocated to a new home. Relocation is a better alternative than using pesticides, as killing the bees leaves behind a mess of honey and wax that can attract other pests.
The local beekeeping society in your state or territory may have swarm collection details on their website, or know of beekeepers in your area who can help.
