Growing green: biodiversity benefits for your course
This month there are three world-wide events to celebrate biodiversity: Wild Koala Day, World Migratory Bird Day and World Biodiversity Day.
Creating a more biodiverse course can help to raise the environmental profile of your Club. Given the increasing urbanisation of suburbs, golf courses are vital green spaces to provide refuges for wildlife.
There may even be some costs savings in increased biodiversity. A thriving, biodiverse ecosystem naturally regulates pests and diseases. Converting managed turf to naturalised rough and reduces your maintenance and chemical costs. Planting indigenous plants reduces the need for soil modifications and requires less irrigation.
