Harvesting the future
Summer seed collection
Summer is the ideal time to collect seeds - the hot, dry weather means many of our native grasses and woody plants reach peak maturity, making it the perfect time to collect high-quality, local provenance seeds. Gathering seed now ensures you have the exact species that are already adapted to your unique soil and microclimate, providing a cost-effective and sustainable way to manage your roughs and out-of-play areas.
If you aren't sure where to start or find yourself with an abundance of seed to share, consider partnering with a local Indigenous nursery. Their staff can often assist with collection, specialised seed cleaning and storage. In many cases, they can even propagate your collected seeds for your next planting season.
